I've recently done some research (Google) on the current ages of some of the biggest rock stars ever. Many of them are my childhood musical heros and now I'm thoroughly depressed because now it really hits home, just how old I myself am.
Here are just a few examples:
Paul McCartney: Age: 70Mick Jagger: Age:69Keith Richards: Age: 68Gene Simmons: Age 62Rod Stewart: Age: 67Steven Tyler: Age: 64Eric Clapton: Age:67
But here's the one bright spot for me.The ones mentioned above are all still alive, recording new music and doing massively succesful concert tours.
So after a few Bud Light Platinums, I had an epiphany.
In recent years there have been a lot of very lucrative music festivals .... There's Lollipalooza,South By Southwest, etc. etc.
So why not have ourselves a "geriatric rock festival??"
Maybe call it .... "Geezers of Rock"
Only those rock bands whose members are all over 60 can perform.
I'm almost certain that A.A.R.P. and the makers of Metamucil would jump at the chance to sponsor the event.
Much like Woodstock, (the first one) the audience would consist of individuals feeling nothing short of unconditional love for humanity, but instead of passing around joints and hits of acid, they would be passing around hits of Geritol and Viagra.
Of course, The Rolling Stones would have to be a shoe-in as headliners, but just think of the possibilities for a supporting line-up.
72 year old Grace Slick and the surviving members of Jefferson Airplane could be the opening act...."White Rabbit" would have to be the opening song.....Followed by 73 year old Ian Hunter and the surviving members of Mott The Hoople performing "All The Young Dudes"A song written by 65 year old David Bowie who would then come out and perform a couple of his big hits, "Ziggy Sardust" and "Rebel Rebel". (in a lower key I presume)
Then there's 71 year old Eric Burdon of The Animals performing their classic, "House of the Rising Sun"The Kinks....Brothers Ray Davies (68) and his 65 year old sibling Dave performing "Lola" their hit about gettin' it on with a transvestite.64 year old Robert Plant,68 year old Jimmy Page and 66 year old John Paul Jones, the surviving members of Led Zeppelin performing "Stairway to Heaven" and a rousing (ok, sedated) rendition of "Whole Lotta Love".Not to mention "Won't Get Fooled Again" performed by 67 year old Pete Townshend and 68 year old Roger Daltry, the only surviving members of The Who, also performing one of their first big hits "My Generation" which includes that famous line "I hope I die before I get old" (sorry that didn't work out for ya guys)
I must confess: This idea could be huge, (even coming from a pea brain like mine)
